The first weeks of autumn are traditionally also weeks of remembrance. In Nazareth is the first occasion for the commemoration of the Battle of the Edemolen.
On October 1, we remember the fights in our municipality that heralded the beginning of the Eerste Wereldoorlog here. Aan de Edemolen, a brigade of Liège civil guard, gendarmes, volunteers, and French soldiers clashed with German troops. By holding their ground, they succeeded in delaying the advance of the German army through Belgium. Enough to ensure that the Belgian army could retreat in the direction of the coast.
At 3:00 PM, there is a floral tribute and a short ceremony at the monument at Café Edemolen.
Later in the year, the commemoration at the Grenadiers Bridge and the November 11 celebrations will follow.
