Vernissage of Stef Van Alsenoy

Yuki: means 'snow'. In Japan every winter, a unique interplay of Siberian cold, warm sea air, and a long mountain ridge creates extreme snowfall on the west side of the country, while it can remain dry elsewhere. This snow-rich area, the 'yukiguni', turns into a minimalist landscape of silence and emptiness. That stillness connects to the Japanese concept 'Ma' (?): the meaningful space between things. The photography of Stef Van Alsenoy reflects this feeling of understated calm and empty space. The exhibition, titled 'Yuki no seijaku', captures this silent, supporting emptiness of snow.
