Prishtina. The premeditated killing of a dream

The starting point of this piece is a crime story that took place about 25 years ago in Prishtina, then administered by the UN. Architect and urban planner Rexhep Luci was repeatedly threatened by 'people from the underworld' and later murdered by unknown attackers at the entrance of his apartment in Prishtina. In that post-war period of chaos, he tried, almost single-handedly, to restore urban control. But it was not a time for heroes wanting to create a better future.For over two decades, the issue of illegal construction in Prishtina and Kosovo has reached catastrophic proportions. By building without urban planning and control, our cities have become suffocating, with public spaces that are unsafe and hostile. Vijf Seizoenen (Five Seasons) brings these issues to the stage and invites us to rethink our relationship with the city. It examines our intellectual and artistic position in a society that is trapped in destructive cycles regarding its environment, and attempts to articulate this position performatively.Today, this destructive cycle of our city - of our cities - has been institutionalized and normalized.
