Kolibrie is a music theater performance about mental vulnerability among young people. It is an honest testimony of a woman who had to deal with depression as a young girl. In the piece, story, beautiful singing, and music strengthen each other. We take you on a rollercoaster of feelings. We fly forward, backward, and occasionally hang around for a while too. Kolibrie is a story of pain and sorrow, but above all also of strength and hope based on a true story. De Lotjes Aalst are survivors of people who took their own lives. Because suicide is still the biggest cause of death among young people and a persistent taboo remains around it, they ask for more attention for the mental well-being of young people and for everyone who is fighting a silent battle. With previous actions, such as the inauguration of Het Stille Strijdbeeld and the light walk, De Lotjes already brought this message out. Their goal remains the same: to show that talking helps, that no one is alone, and that there is always hope. That is why they bring De Lotjes Kolibrie to De Werf Cultuurhuis. The performance carries a powerful message: you are not alone in your struggle; seek help and talk about it. The intention is to reach young people, parents, teachers, care providers, and everyone who has to deal with mental vulnerability. On this evening, Aalst organizations that work on mental health also present their operations. The proceeds go to the TEJO house in Aalst.
