En Angleterre around 1580, a modest Latin teacher marries Agnes, a free-spirited woman, with whom he has three children. While he pursues a career as a playwright in London, she manages the household alone. A tragedy makes their couple waver, but from this ordeal is born the inspiration for a universal masterpiece.
