Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) Fantasia super “Jesu, meine Freude”, BWV 713 Fantasia in C minor, BWV 537 Partita sopra "Sei gegrüsset, Jesu gütig", BWV 768 Johann Sebastian Bach takes organ composition to an unprecedented degree of elaboration and contrapuntal richness. The works gathered in this program illustrate several facets of this: the two fantasias deploy a free and virtuosic style, while the Partita sopra Sei gegrüsset, Jesu gütig develops a chorale through a series of variations revealing Bach's contrapuntal mastery. For this concert, Mathias Lecomte performs these pieces alternately on the two organs of the Sablon church, highlighting the unique sonorities of each.
