Piano concert - Su Yeon Kim

With sincere devotion, her first album, “Mozart Recital”, was released on the Steinway & Sons Label in July 2023. It was soon presented as "One to Watch" by Gramophone Magazine, which noted her "expert finger legato and a sense of air between phrases that is easier to hear than to explain... her Adagio is closer to Horowitz’s elegance and wistful fluidity." It was also selected as "Critics’ Choice" by International Piano Magazine, named "Album of the Year" by AllMusic Guide, and highly praised by Diapason and classical-music.com (BBC) with a five-star review. Su Yeon’s debut appearance with the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal under Osmo Vänskä in October 2022 marked a turning point in her career, followed by performances with the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra under Pieter-Jelle de Boer, the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra under Jaap van Zweden, and the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris at the Paris Play-Direct Academy, where she conducted from the keyboard, leading to a debut performance at the Philharmonie de Paris. She has also collaborated with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre de Chambre de Wallonie, Slovak Philharmonic, Orchestra dell'Accademia Teatro alla Scala, Salzburg Orchestra Soloists, Mozarteum Sinfonieorchester, Thuringer Symphoniker, Krakow Philharmonic, St. Gellert Festival Orchestra, Fairbanks Symphony, and Minnesota Orchestra. She has performed in numerous prestigious venues worldwide, including Herkulessaal Munich, Teatro alla Scala Milan, Franz Liszt Hall Budapest, Vienna Konzerthaus, Großer Saal Stiftung Mozarteum Salzburg, Salle Cortot Paris, Aula Magna Fribourg, Flagey Brussels, Kennedy Center Washington D.C., and Hamarikyu Asahi Hall Tokyo. She has also often been invited by the Steinway Prizewinner Concert Network to venues such as Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, NDR Sendesaal Hannover, Kunstpalast Düsseldorf, and Engadin Festival St. Moritz. In her native Korea, she performs regularly in major concert halls and was the 2023 Artist-in-Residence of the Kumho Cultural Foundation, presenting five concerts with recital and chamber concert series. In the same year, she received the Byucksan Music Award. Born in Seoul, Su Yeon received her first piano lessons at age five. After moving to Europe at age 19, she studied with Pavel Gililov at the University Mozarteum Salzburg and was mentored by Paul Gulda. Along with her studies, she has won numerous competitions, including the International Tchaikovsky Competition for young musicians (2009), J.N. Hummel International Competition (2014), Spanish Composers International Competition (2014), and Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition (2018). From 2023, she continued her studies with Éric Le Sage in Freiburg. Currently based in Salzburg, she has also drawn valuable inspiration from renowned musicians in masterclasses, including Alfred Brendel, Sir András Schiff, Maria João Pires, and Robert Levin.
