Wuthering Heights, based on the 1847 literary classic by Emily Bront, tells the story of Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw. Heathcliff, a foundling taken in by the Earnshaw family, grows up in a world of passion, jealousy, and social tension. A deep, instinctive bond forms between him and Catherine, but their love is undermined by pride, class, and societal expectations. Wuthering Heights is not a romantic love story, but a look at what power does to people. About how pain leads to more pain, about how those who are trampled learn to trample others themselves. In 2026, Internationaal Theater Amsterdam (ITA) welcomes Norwegian director Kjersti Horn, one of the most important innovators of Scandinavian theater, with work that constantly questions the boundaries between the personal and the political. In her work, she explores themes such as power, marginalization, and vulnerability, often from a distinctly feminist and social perspective. Deze Wuthering Heights is her debut at ITA.
