Women in the rock business, it is not an obvious story. Every decade has its 'pop dolls' prefabricated by the industry. But women with real rock charisma and credibility, who also mean something in the long term? Not that many, even today. Even in those glorious seventies and eighties, you could count them on one hand. And in the sixties, you don't get much further than just Janis Joplin. But what about the even earlier prehistory of rock – that so-called 'rock’n’roll revolution' of the fifties? And in the years that preceded that? Yes, there is quite a bit to discover. The great blues ladies with strong opinions even then about aggressive men, lesbian relationships, prostitution, … Some combative country singers and all the opposition they received. There was even a female Elvis, but why is it that we hear almost nothing about her?
