Trip: expo 'Voor Onze Ogen' and immersive game 'Van de kaart' at Z33 Hasselt

We are heading to Z33 for a guided tour of the exhibition 'Before Our Eyes', in which eleven (inter)national artists explore what it means to look at political events today, with special attention to the genocidal violence in Palestine. Afterwards, we will play the empathy game Palestine: Off the Map; an interactive game that, without prior knowledge, introduces you to historical facts and the impact of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on daily life. At Z33 (house for contemporary art, design, and architecture), we take the time to look differently — to investigate what images do to us, and to experience. Part 1 — Guided tour of the exhibition 'Before Our Eyes' The exhibition starts from a simple but confronting thought: looking is never neutral. What we see, and what we look away from, says something about us. An expert guide will lead us past eleven (inter)national artists who respond to today's political events while simultaneously asking ethical questions about showing violence and suffering: what does it mean to depict violence, and can (or should) art prompt us to reflect or take action? Featuring work by, among others, Rosalind Nashashibi, Rabih Mroué, Mohammed Sami, Sirah Foighel Brutmann & Eitan Efrat, Hamishi Farah, Marlene Dumas, Luc Tuymans, Marianne Berenhaut, Ryan Cullen, and Angharad Williams. A highlight is a new mural by Luc Tuymans, created especially for this exhibition. Part 2 — Inleefspel Inleefspel Palestina: Off the Map After the tour, we switch from looking to experiencing. 'Off the Map' is an interactive empathy game about the history of the Israeli-Palestinian issue. The rules and materials take you through historical facts and let you experience firsthand how a conflict affects the daily lives of people on the ground. No prior knowledge is required. Important to know: the game is most accessible to participants who speak and understand Dutch well.
