Lasse Vonck has been proclaimed a prodigy and acclaimed by press and public as a young artist. Thirty years later, that is no longer the case. That people have forgotten him over the years, he finds a fate to bear, but he is lost, he is looking for a goal, meaning. On a lusterless spring day, Lasse is so alienated from himself upon waking that he no longer really knows who he is. He cannot even speak anymore. ‘Confessie’ (Confession) is inspired by the timeless and weatherless story ‘De Gedaanteverwisseling’ by Franz Kafka. It sketches a portrait of man as a silent protest. ‘Confessie’ is a new theater text by Raven Ruëll, written for and performed by Bruno Vanden Broecke. Both have been making performances together for 25 years, including Missie (2007), Para (2016), and Klink (2023) - you undoubtedly still remember it -. I really have nothing with cars, but I had a strange dream - has kept me busy for a long time - it's about a - how do you say that - a family car. I am nine years old and my mother and I are looking out the window. We see a strongly muscular man in a tank top who, one by one, dismantles all four tires of my father's white Citroën BX then he takes out a sledgehammer and smashes all the windows into smithereens happily tears all the seats - front and back - to shreds rips out the car radio, breaks off the side mirrors, pulls out the steering wheel and my mother watches it and she does nothing and I run outside the man in his tank top has - poof - dissolved and I want to shout, I want to scream but I can't, I can't stand up for myself again why is that so difficult and I look at what remains of the Citroën. I see the spot where I always sat, when we left for vacation In the middle of the back seat, a bit forward between my father and my mother, elbows on the side of their chairs and I get to choose the cassette to put in the car radio … ‘dear little piranha tear me apart’ Bruno Vanden Broecke / performance Raven Ruëll / text and direction Gert Van Hyfte / technique De Speelman / production
