La Grazia

Mariano De Santis is almost at the end of his last term as president. Although he is beloved, he is accused by some of a certain aloofness. For example, he keeps postponing the approval of a bill regarding euthanasia - preferably directly into the hands of his successor. While he wonders what his legacy will be - as president, and as a human -, he dreams about his deceased wife, tries to seek connection with his children, and begins to realize that he has one big last trump card in his hands - granting pardon.\n\nCommentaar Paolo Sorrentino (Parthenope) and actor Toni Servillo (Il Divo) have joined forces more often with success, and with La Grazia they prove that their heyday as a duo is not over yet. Servillo even won the prize for Beste Acteur for his role as a pained Italian president in Venice. Expect besides rock-solid acting work above all again much beauty, beautiful Italian locations, intellectual depth, interesting musical influences, humor, sensuality and love, covered with a deeply melancholic and wistful sauce. It is to be hoped for the film world that Sorrentino continues to make films for a long time, but otherwise this serves almost as the perfect synthesis of his entire oeuvre.
