Around 1770, music sounded in the private rooms of the Madrid court that was not intended for the general public. Cayetano Brunetti composed violin sonatas exclusively for the Prins van Asturië, the later King Charles IV, written for his personal use and tailored to his musical training. They are works that balance between refinement and intimacy, between virtuosity and elegance. In De violin of the prince, Scaramuccia brings this exceptional court music back to life. Brunetti's sonatas unfold as music for proximity, in which detail, color, and expression are central. They show how the violin at the Spanish court was not only an instrument, but also a carrier of personal musicality. The addition of music by Luigi Boccherini places this repertoire in a broader court context. His sonata fits seamlessly with the atmosphere and character of Brunetti’s works and reinforces the image of a musical world in which subtlety and personal expression take precedence. The violin of the prince offers a glimpse into a musical world in which refinement and intimacy go hand in hand, and in which music sounds as it was once intended: close, personal, and without detours.
