Sunday, August 9: Opening act - Street Orchestra of MerksemDok Since the beginning of this year, something new has been sounding in MerksemDok: the Street Orchestra of MerksemDok! Under the direction of Alex Smith, a vibrant musical collective is growing here where fun, creativity, and connection are central. Expect no classical orchestra, but a warm, dynamic place where rhythm, meeting, and enthusiasm come together. Het Straatorkest of MerksemDok brings people together, lets talent grow, and above all ensures a lot of playing fun. Tijdens Muziek in the Neighborhood, they are guaranteed to provide an infectious performance that connects, surprises, and sweeps the audience along. A festive ode to making music together, straight from the neighborhood! Main program - Zulu (Cape Verde) Zulu comes from the Cape Verdean island Boa Vista where tradition and innovation meet. This young artist only released her debut album last year, music full of passion, with the beautiful rhythms of her country and touches of jazz. Concerts followed quickly, fans too, and after a musical journey to Rio de Janeiro, she sets her sights on Europe. Expect melancholic Cape Verdean melodies, immersive rhythms, and a strong woman on stage. Sunday, August 16: Opening act - Seba Colson Seba Colson is a versatile and talented musician who earned his spurs in numerous projects and bands, including Fela Kuti Celebration Band, Hnita Bigband, Nuff Said Liveband, and collaborations with Nana Osei Twum Barima. In addition, he also leads his own quintet, with which he fully lets his love for jazz and improvisation speak. Voor Zomer in the Neighborhood, Seba brings a sunny, heartwarming set in trio formation, with trumpet, double bass, and drum. Expect an intimate, musical meeting full of jazz, groove, and summery class on the Kroonplein. Main program - Tasuta N-Imal (Morocco) This tough band takes you on a musical journey to the heart of the Amazigh culture, straight from Morocco. Tasuta N-Imal (the generation of the future in Tamazight) brings soulful melodies and hypnotic rhythms of the Imazighen (Berbers) to life. Their concerts are a party! Songs that start softly acoustically go faster and faster until everyone goes totally wild. It is a unique blend of desert blues, enchanting folk music, and traditional rhythms that will immediately sweep you away. Sunday, August 23: Opening act - Sweet Kanela Sweet Kanela is an energetic musical group with roots from Latin America. The band consists of experienced musicians from Mexico, Cuba, Chile, and Peru, who together ensure an authentic and irresistible Latin sound. With a repertoire full of salsa, merengue, bachata, and cumbia, Sweet Kanela knows how to get every audience moving immediately. Their performances guarantee ambiance, warm rhythms, and a dance floor that never stays empty for a moment. Main program - Domingo y Ecos de Habana (Cuba) Domingo Felipe Castro Crespo. is a pianist, conductor, and producer with over 40 years of experience from Pinar del Rio. With his band, he brings the best of Cuba to Antwerp. A colorful mix of sunny Afro-Cuban rhythms and salsa. You imagine yourself for a moment in La Habana, that magical city that breathes music and warmth. Wherever they perform, with their rousing beats they know how to get feet off the floor everywhere. Let’s salsa! Sunday, August 30: Opening act - Rapha The 24-year-old Belgian artist with Congolese roots is quickly conquering hearts with her fresh pop sound, honest lyrics, and radiant stage presence. RAPHA broke through in 2020 when she was named MNM Rising Star. Shortly after, her debut single Funny followed, which immediately reached the Ultratop 50. Live, RAPHA leaves a strong impression. She has already stood on stages with international artists such as Jude York and aleksiah, performed at the residence of the Belgian royal family, and made an impression this spring in Ancienne Belgique during Black History Month. Main program - Kanazoe Orkestra (Burkina Faso/France) With their latest album, "Balabeatz", the Kanazoé Orkestra serves a unique musical trip in which the mystical griot culture of West Africa mixes with new beats from Nigeria of Zuid-Africa, and where virtuosity and trance come together. Seydou Diabaté, alias Kanazoé, comes from a long line of griots. Ten years old, he became an orphan and ended up in Bobo Dioulasso. There, under the care of his uncle, he became a master balafon player. A festive concert with grooves to which it is impossible to stand still.
