It has been eight years since the legendary sitcom THE SITCOM, created and performed by a theater collective on the edge of financial ruin. No budget, just a real group of friends in a real coffee bar. A TV series that was so rare, authentic, and radical, so hilarious and disruptive, so deeply human and tragic, that it immediately became a cult hit. To the bewilderment of its ever-growing fanbase, however, the series ended on a gaping cliffhanger. Life had mercilessly overtaken fiction. Eight years later, sitcoms are retro, a genre from a time when laughter was closer to us than tears. Nostalgia has become a business model, so producers are bringing the group back together. How have they fared? Can they continue together? THE SITCOM is a schizophrenic tragicomedy in which actors with tragic lives must play those same lives, but as a joke. At the same time, you see the making-of of that sitcom, including the loves, the breakups, the distrust, the cautious attempts at reconciliation, the betrayal, and the hope, always, that it will work out in the end.
