The High Mass of Bach - Václav Luks, Collegium Vocale 1704, Collegium 1704

Greatness becomes audible here. Bach did not write his Mass in B minor for one church or one moment. He let the music ripen over the years, and only bundled it later into one glorious monument. Restraint and exuberance, strictness and celebration slide effortlessly over each other. This is Bach in his most pure form: shining and jubilating, probing and musing. And who understands this music better than Václav Luks? Zijn Praagse ensembles Collegium 1704 and Collegium Vocale 1704 bring the music as if it were written for them. As one of the key figures within the historical performance practice of today, he lets Bach sound as only he can: with a lot of sharpness and emotion, an eye for detail, and razor-sharp sound control. This concert forms the third Bach moment of the season, after the St. John Passion and the Bach program with Philippe Herreweghe. The music also literally gets the space it asks for. Wanneer Bachs architecture coincides with the clarity and curves of the Elisabeth Hall, greatness becomes not only audible, but tangible. Experience more With free introduction at 19:15
