Mostly Owl

Mostly Owl is an alternative folk quartet that has its roots in the Gentse Muzikantenhuis, where violinist David Van Ransbeeck and multi-instrumentalist Gabor Humble found each other in 2017 during a series of spontaneous jam sessions. What started as a duo with concerts in Hungary and Romania soon grew into a quirky project in which traditional music from Bulgaria, Turkey, and Hungary merges with Gypsy jazz and original compositions. They invited bassist Luc Van der Stock, who previously worked with Gabor in projects such as Humble Grumble and Follia!, and continued life as a trio. In 2025 the group got a new dimension when percussionist Peter De Wannemaeker joined the group — at the invitation of Gabor, with whom he once stood at the basis of Humble Grumble together with Luc —. His rhythmic color palette expands the group sound and strengthens the organic dynamics between the musicians. Mostly Owl is working today as a quartet on new repertoire. Their music breathes the diversity of Ghent: a city where musicians from all corners of the world find each other and where traditions are not preserved, but reinvented. The result is a lively, adventurous sound that feels just as at home on folk stages as in intimate listening halls.
