Children of Simone has grown from the womb of the Leuven Jazz Festival. The collective puts young talent forward and celebrates the power of an all-female line-up. Under the direction of Emeraude Kabeya, the collective masterfully plays the field of tension between vulnerability and resistance, and brings an ode to Nina Simone, an icon that continues to inspire generations. The seven singers know how to make Simone's message of freedom, struggle and vulnerability sound again in their bundling of voices. From her greatest classics to her most intimate pearls: a kaleidoscope of emotions passes by, each time with an intensity that touches the audience straight in the heart. Children of Simone pays tribute to an often misunderstood soul, a woman who is part of our culture. With spoken word, Children of Simone lifts the performance to the present and connects Simone's timeless music with the social and personal stories of today. Maura Delbare, Mien Heyvaert and Caro Abutoh support the vocal power. With sparkling keys, pulsating drums and a deep, warm bass, they together create a soundscape that lifts the voices, amplifies the emotions and makes the music both intimate and monumental.
