Il Gardellino - Tafelmuziek Georg Philipp Telemann (1681-1767) was one of the most influential and productive German composers of the late Baroque, who enjoyed a significantly greater reputation during his lifetime than contemporaries like J.S. Bach. One of his absolute masterpieces, which underscores his versatility and sense of elegance, is the Musique de Table of Tafelmusik. Table music was a popular genre in the 18th century: music intended to be performed during banquets, dinners, or formal gatherings of the aristocracy and wealthy bourgeoisie. The goal was not so much an attentive listening audience, but rather an atmospheric, elegant backdrop for a meal. The musicians of Il Gardellino present a program with gems from the Baroque, including work by Telemann, Vivaldi, Janitsch, and yes... Piazzolla.
