Het Hazendal is a piece of the Sonian Forest squeezed between the village center of Hoeilaart and the Groenendaal station. At the beginning of the 20th century, King Leopold II had a park area laid out there, where the wealthy bourgeoisie from Brussels liked to walk and relax. The eight ponds laid out at that time - the so-called King's Ponds - still offer an excellent habitat for numerous plant and animal species, including rare dragonflies. Remnants of the historical activity in the Sonian Forest by, among others, the Celts and the medieval farmers are also covered during this walk, which largely goes over unpaved paths. -Guide: Eloi G. - Distance: max 5 km and dogs are not allowed. - The walk is free, and please report your presence to the guide upon arrival . Registration is desirable but not mandatory. By registering, you are sure of your place and we can keep you informed of possible changes.
