Cantatas 1, 2, 6 & cantata Gloria in Excelsis The story is not yet finished. A packed Jezuïetenkerk has already experienced the Christmas season for several years with the unforgettable Christmas Oratorio that J.S. Bach composed in 1734.
This oratorio sounds very festive with a large orchestra, including trumpets and timpani. Attending the Christmas Oratorio is for many an indispensable element to experience the real Christmas atmosphere. This year - in the restored Jezuïetenkerk - highlights from the Christmas Oratorio are repeated. The exuberant Gloria in Excelsis (BW191) is also performed. Bach's interpretation of the Christmas season is particularly grandly set up with four soloists, a five-part choir, and with all instruments available to Bach at the time. Wishing you a sparkling Christmas! choir Helicon | orchestra La Passione | soprano Clara Dijckmans | altus Jan Wouters | tenor (evangelist) Adrian Fernandes | bass Thomas Vandenabeele | direction Geert Hendrix
