Abdij van Vlierbeek, Kessel-Lo
Free
Together with a guide from the Heemkundige Kring Vlierbeek non-profit organization, you will go on a voyage of discovery through the abbey site. Naturally, a visit to the magnificent abbey church, the masterpiece of architect Laurent-Benoît Dewez, is one of the highlights.
During this guided tour, you will learn more about the rich history of the abbey and how the life of the Benedictine monks played out there for almost seven centuries. Stories about the period after the dissolution of the abbey in 1796 will also be covered.
Benedictines are no longer there, but Vlierbeek lives like never before. During the 2025 anniversary year, in which we celebrated 900 years of Abdij van Vlierbeek, that was clearly evident. The guide shows you corners that you may never have discovered before and shows you how the ancient abbey site has been given a new purpose over the years.
Meeting at 3:00 PM at the Westerpoort. Price €8.00 per person, children up to 12 years old free. You can pay for your participation at the start of the walk via Payconiq. If you prefer a cash payment, we kindly ask you to pay the exact amount. Prior registration is not necessary.
