visit to the Royal Palace in Brussels and the mining disaster museum in Marcinelle

Before noon, visit to the Koninklijk Paleis in Brussels, followed by a short tour of the city, including the NATO, the European Quarter, the Wetstraat, and the Sonian Forest. Lunch. Afterwards, to Marcinelle, where exactly 70 years ago, on August 8, 1956, the greatest mining disaster in our country occurred. 975 m deep, a fully loaded coal cart blocked the elevator cage. An empty cart tore off a beam. An oil pressure line was damaged, and high-voltage cables and the compressed air line broke. The result: a fire that degenerated into a true disaster: the 275 miners were trapped like rats. We will visit, among other things, the museum, boiler rooms, slag heaps, and learn everything about this dramatic day. To conclude the return trip to Grobbendonk, we end the day with an excellent evening dinner. Departure at 8:30 AM at the TOTAL gas station and further at the known boarding points.
