Vesalius Museum, experience care and science

Wed, 6 Jan 2027 · 14:15
Vesalius Museum, Leuven
Why does our heart beat? How does a wound heal? What happens to our body when we age? Scarcely a few weeks after the opening, we visit the brand-new Vesalius Museum of KU Leuven and UZ Leuven. On the historical Hertogensite, centuries-old medical knowledge, contemporary science and new technology meet in a surprising way. During a guided tour, a guide takes us along the highlights of the museum. We follow human life from pregnancy and birth to illness, recovery and death, discover special medical and scientific collections and see how care evolved through the centuries. Whoever wants to can even follow in the footsteps of Andreas Vesalius and explore the human body at a digital autopsy table. And all this happens in a place where dissections and medical research once truly took place. The historical Anatomisch Theater and Pathologisch Instituut were given a completely new life as a museum. A special introduction to a brand-new Leuven museum where history, science, care and man come together. It is above all a museum that triggers you to dive into all corners and perspectives of care: historical, ethical, artistic, human and scientific.
