Ignace Michiels (°1963) studied organ, piano, and harpsichord at the conservatory of his hometown Bruges. In 1986, he became a laureate at the Lemmensinstituut in Leuven. He perfected himself successively at the Southern Methodist University in Dallas, at the Koninklijk Conservatorium in Brussels, and the Conservatoire National in Paris, where he acquired the Prix d'Excellence. At the Koninklijk Conservatorium in Ghent, he obtained the Hoger Diploma for organ. Ignace Michiels is a teacher at the Bruges conservatory and teaches the organ course at the Koninklijk Conservatorium in Ghent. He is a regular guest professor in Europe and America. He was the conductor of the Bruges oratorio choir Cantores for 15 years. He is also the founder-conductor of the vocal ensemble 'De Wijngaard'. Since 1991, Ignace Michiels has been the titular organist of the Sint-Salvatorskathedraal in Bruges and organizer of the Kathedraalfestival Brugge. He performs on almost every continent and, in addition to many CD productions, has made several recordings for radio stations. In 2009, he was awarded the Prize of the Social-Culturele Raad of the city of Bruges. During his solo recital on the national holiday, he plays, among other things, work by Couperin, Bach, Widor, Vierne, Duruflé, and others.
