Film: Nouvelle vague

In 1959, François Truffaut gives the starting signal at the Cannes Film Festival for the Nouvelle Vague, the film movement that thoroughly shakes up film history. A year later, 29-year-old Jean-Luc Godard debuts with À bout de souffle, a film that radically breaks with the film traditions of the time and sends a shockwave through the cinema of the 20th century. With that, Godard definitively steps out of the shadow of his Cahiers du Cinéma colleagues François Truffaut and Claude Chabrol. But À bout de souffle does not come about without a struggle. Precisely that turbulent making process is central to Nouvelle Vague by American director Richard Linklater.
