In 1959, François Truffaut gives the starting signal at the Cannes Film Festival for the Nouvelle Vague, the film movement that thoroughly shakes up film history. A year later, 29-year-old Jean-Luc Godard debuts with À bout de souffle, a film that radically breaks with the film traditions of the time and sends a shockwave through the cinema of the 20th century. With that, Godard definitively steps out of the shadow of his Cahiers du Cinéma colleagues François Truffaut and Claude Chabrol. But À bout de souffle does not come about without a struggle. Precisely that turbulent making process is central to Nouvelle Vague by American director Richard Linklater. Just like the original, the film is stylishly shot in black and white and steeped in irresistible fifties & sixties atmosphere. Expect no intellectualistic docudrama, but a witty film full of speed, charm, and cinephile winks, populated by a procession of legendary French film figures. “It could easily have turned into a bad game of imitation, but Nouvelle vague shrugs its shoulders like a bon vivant. It entertains immensely. Making a film? Sometimes it's just a matter of daring. Vive le cinéma!” - De Standaard 105 MIN / FRANCE - UNITED STATES / 2025 / 12+ DIRECTOR RICHARD LINKLATER CAST GUILLAUME MARBECK, ZOEY DEUTCH, AUBRY DULLIN
