Relive the Aalst from Daens' time and walk together with the guide in his footsteps along the many places and buildings that remind us of his life and struggle. Priester Daens campaigned for political and social reforms and was committed to the interests of workers, farmers, and small middle-class business owners. As a figurehead of the Christian People's Party and member of parliament for Aalst, he repeatedly clashed with the Catholic Party, the conservatives, the high clergy, and behind the scenes also with King Leopold II. During this guided tour, you will walk past his statue, on the banks of the Dender, where Daens often walked and saw the social misery. You will visit the Saint Martin's Church and walk past his birthplace and the exhibition in 't Gasthuys city museum. Registration is required.
