The exploding whale musical (8+) - Elsa van Dijk

THE EXPLODING WHALE MUSICAL is a visual music theater performance on location around a life-sized whale with a local choir. A cheerfully dark and slightly absurd parable for everyone from 8 to 108 years old. A village in the future. On a piece of land surrounded by sea, where people have been fighting against the water for generations, the city walls and watchtowers completely separate the inhabitants from the water around them. Everything that is wet is forbidden. Every morning the sea is spat upon and cursed, and anyone who has anything to do with water is punished. Only the child who once washed ashore in a plastic bag and the Magnie-inner-human seem to never want to fully fall into line. One night, a gigantic creature washes ashore in this place. A slug-like monster with wings and a breath that makes the ground tremble. And above all: WET. THE EXPLODING WHALE MUSICAL explores our relationship to the water and to everything that lives in it. A story about the big questions of today, but above all brutal, poetic, and funny - with a wink to everything a musical can be. About kinship, and about the question of what it means to really take care of someone - or something.
