De Eric Premerwandeling, Walkotopia’s resistance walk in the neighborhood around the Sint-Pieters station, focuses on being young in WWII. The trip is an ode to the many young people and railway employees who participated in the Ghent resistance. We walk in the footsteps of the very young Ghent maquisard Eric Premer (1925-1944) and discover the impact of the German occupation on the Ghent youth. War is unfortunately of all times and is currently very topical again. But society forgets quickly and selectively. For example, the names of the Ghent resistance fighters from WWII have largely disappeared from collective memory. Om de Gentse to pass on war stories to future generations, historian Leentje Van Hoorde has been collecting testimonies about WWII in Ghent with Walkotopia since 2020. She processes these into resistance walks in the various Ghent neighborhoods. Each resistance walk bears the name of a resistance fighter and highlights a different theme.
