Retrospective repertoire for violin and orchestra
Sergey Rachmaninov wrote his Third Symphony in his later years. The work therefore sounds like a look back at a life. With quiet intensity, the music shows how memories become heavier as time passes: nostalgic melodies, dark shadows, and moments of unexpected lightness alternate. The Vioolconcerto van Benjamin Britten also carries a feeling of reflection. Written on the threshold of a new and uncertain world, the inner tension reconciles itself with intense beauty.
