De Groote - Faes - Time Unfolding

Highly recommended listening pleasure” - Erwin Van Rillaer, 2026 Bruno De Groote and Ben Faes together form one of the most idiosyncratic duos within the Belgian jazz scene. Bruno is a contemporary guitarist with a background in jazz and improvisation. He is internationally known for his work with dEUS (2018-2021) and other artists (e.g., Axelle Red ). He has contributed to many Belgian pop, rock, and jazz projects. Ben Faes is a double bassist and composer with roots in the classical tradition from baroque to contemporary music. He regularly performs with major European orchestras: the Rotterdams Philharmonisch orchestra, the Antwerps Symfonieorkest, Anima Eterna Brugge , and the Flanders Symphony Orchestra . Together they combine jazz and classical traditions with modern (electric) sounds, creating uplifting music in an intimate, beautifully unpredictable language. With only an electric guitar and double bass, they build an intense, open sound world in which classical depth and finesse coincide with contemporary, raw imagination. Their first album, En Route, (2014) still showed a more traditional jazz sound. Three years later, Symphonie for 2 little boys appeared, in a collaboration with the trumpet virtuoso Dave Douglas based in New York. On this second album, you hear echoes of modern jazz, classical beauty, wildly rocking solos, snippets of world music, and electronically manipulated soundscapes that together form a coherent story, a reflection of the broad background of both musicians. The breeding ground for this concert at Arscene is their new, third album: Time Unfolding , which was recorded with the iconic drummer Dré Pallemaerts. Live, the duo again chooses the familiar, refined duo setting in which the music redraws itself and unfolds further in an intimate perspective - open, alive, and compelling. Each project broadens their musical horizon, while their characteristic clarity, intimacy, and adventurous interplay are preserved.
