The folk songwriter and violinist Laura Cortese, who emigrated from the USA to Belgium, is always looking for gems in sound, groove, and melody. For this edition, she brings together four leading songwriters from across the ocean. During a residency of a few days, their songs grow towards each other and spontaneously take on new forms and arrangements. They blow magic into each other's songs and strengthen each other's individuality. Thus, a surprising, virtuoso evening arises from English and American folk.\nCortese, who settled in Belgium from the Verenigde Staten, has been moving between both continents for years. With projects like The Dance Cards and Bright Light Sessions, she built a recognizable, refined sound, rooted in folk but always open to new influences.\nFor this edition, she invites three distinct voices. Eliza Carthy is an icon within the English folk tradition, with a powerful voice and virtuoso violin playing. Sarah Kate Morgan brings intimate, honest songs rooted in the Appalachians. Jake Blount, in turn, explores an idiosyncratic, afro-futuristic approach to folk, in which past and future run through each other.
