Butterfly walk along the canal slopes in Gellik

Lanaken is the butterfly municipality par excellence due to its varied landscapes. Several regions come together in the municipality: Kempen, Haspengouw, and Maasland. This ensures a high diversity of butterflies. You can spot common butterfly species such as the Small White, Common Blue, and Meadow Brown. But also (very) rare species, such as the Alcon Blue, Grizzled Skipper, and Wood White. On this Sunday afternoon, Natuurlijk Zutendaal and Natuurpunt Lanaken are organizing a guided walk. The focus will be on the valuable canal embankments between Gellik and Eigenbilzen. We depart at 2:00 PM at the canal bridge of Gellik (Wijerdijk). The walk lasts approximately 2.5 hours (until 4:30 PM). We provide butterfly nets, identification cards, and insect jars. Prior knowledge is not necessary. Everyone is welcome, admission is free.
