Effel Quartet reached the highest place in the competition Supernova for new chamber music groups 2026, a collaboration of the classical radio stations Klara and Musiq’3 and several cultural houses. CCHA is involved in this as a ‘star gazer’ and presents at least one of the finalists every season.
With impeccable virtuosity and an innovative approach, four saxophonists explore the elegance and the enormous expressive potential of their instrument. Their cultural roots draw a special picture: Kristóf Havasi comes from Hungary, David Patyra from Germany, Jorge Larreina from Spain, and Kacper Puczko from Poland. All of them are students of Vincent David, renowned saxophone teacher and composer at the Koninklijk Conservatorium van Brussel (of which they play a creation dedicated to him). That they found each other in the land of Adolphe Sax, they summarize with a wink in their ensemble name (hint: retrograde).
The repertoire of the Effel Quartet extends from the baroque to the 21st century. One of the characteristics of their approach is arranging works that were originally written for other instruments, such as the piano work Suite bergamasque by Debussy.
