Guided summer bike tour: Along silence and remembrance

Thu, 17 Sept 2026 · 09:30
Nationaal Tabaksmuseum, Wervik
€10
This trip takes you to some special final resting places. Landscape and garden architect Andy Malengier has been advocating for beautiful cemeteries for more than 25 years, which leave room for silence and contemplation. His first major design was the Park Cemetery in his former hometown Wervik. We take the time to get to know this green memorial oasis. Then we cycle towards Ypres. Along the way we halt at the cemetery of Zillebeke, at the foot of the Saint Catherine Church. In Ieper itself we linger on the small but fine Ramparts Cemetery, the British military cemetery on the ramparts. Furthermore, we get acquainted with the historical part of the municipal cemetery. Also on the return ride via Zonnebeke and Zandvoorde we halt at funerary beauty. Guidance by guide Elsje van Bellingen. PRACTICAL: Distance: 45 km Departure at 9:30 AM sharp at the Nationaal Tabaksmuseum (Koestraat 63, Wervik) Bring your own picnic
