Carillon Summer Concerts 2026

As per annual tradition, city carillonneur Kenneth Theunissen will bring carillon concerts from the Belfort during the summer. Enjoy unique ensemble concerts every Saturday (evening) in July and August (except during the Gentse Feesten), featuring both established names and new guests! Program Saturday, July 4: Opening concert: Martien van der Knijff (mobile carillon) & Kenneth Theunissen For the opening concert of this series, Nederlander Martien van der Knijff will come to play along. It promises to be a special evening, where Martien plays on a mobile carillon, and Kenneth Theunissen on the tower carillon. Together they bring a very full and varied evening – with both southern tunes and polkas! Saturday, July 11: Flemish classics: Kenneth Theunissen & Jakob De Vreese (carillon + piano) The duo Jakob De Vreese (carillon) and Kenneth Theunissen (piano) presents a bunch of Flemish classics on July 11, not coincidentally on the Feast Day of the Vlaamse Gemeenschap. Hopefully, the sky remains ‘blue, so heavenly blue in golden sunshine’ … as Will Tura sang! Saturday, August 1: Van Bach to Piaf: Kris Binon (trumpet/cornet) & Kenneth Theunissen On Saturday, August 1, we will go on a musical journey through time, mapped out by Theunissen on carillon and Kris Binon on trumpet/cornet. We go from Bach to Piaf . So expect a mix of traditional classical as well as contemporary pop. Saturday, August 8: Franse Chansons: Kenneth Theunissen & Jakob De Vreese (carillon + piano) Les ballade des gens heureux, La vie en rose, Je ne regrette rien… Jakob De Vreese (carillon) and Kenneth Theunissen (piano) serve up well-known chansons from our southern neighbors! You will immediately imagine yourself in a small square in Montmartre or on a terrace in Provence. Saturday, August 15: Love songs: Kenneth Theunissen & Rachel Perfecto (piano) A setting sun and romantic love songs . An ideal evening to dream away to the sounds of the carillon, played by Kenneth Theunissen and accompanied by Rachel Perfecto on piano. Alone, with your friends or loved one… Love is in the air! Saturday, August 22: Ensemble concert: Brecht Crabeels & Lorenz Meulebroek (carillon + piano) For this ensemble concert , Brecht Crabeels (piano) and Lorenz Meulebroek (carillon) are invited. They string together summer pop medleys, waltzes, and even tangos! Saturday, August 29: Chamber choir music: Cum Gaudio (chamber choir) & Kenneth Theunissen Finally, in the Belfort, space is made for the renaissance chamber choir Cum Gaudio from Sint-Martens-Latem, conducted by Rachel Perfecto. The choir and the carillon will engage in a beautiful dialogue that summer evening, a worthy conclusion to another very beautiful series.
