“Niels Hooooolgerssooon!” that’s how the famous cartoon song sounded. But this is the real made-up story, raw and fresh out of the air. Niels comes to report singing and wildly telling about his incredible journey on the back of wild geese. Running from the fox, fighting with rats, enchanted by the crane dance. With a gnome who loves chocolate milk—and teaches him that the ‘law of the strongest’ doesn't have to be true at all. Master storyteller and singer Bert Verbeke, pianist Elisabeth De Loore, a women's choir, and aerial acrobat Juliana Joseph take you on this world-famous adventure. Originally written by Nobelprijswinnares Selma Lagerlöf as a geography lesson, BRODER turns it into a theater trip full of music and text in rhyme. About the border between mischief and pain, between raw and beautiful nature, and an unlikely friendship. Previously, BRODER brought that other Nobel Prize winner, Maurice Maeterlinck, to the stage in an adaptation of ‘De Blauwe Vogel’. ‘Niels’ will also be an ode to unbridled fantasy, full of poetic imagination, with a hefty dash of child-friendly spectacle. Text and music: Peter Spaepen Regie: Koen Boesman Spel: Bert Verbeke Piano: Elisabeth De Loore Zang: KCB and BRODER-choir Aerial acrobatics: Juliana Joseph Koor: Imke Goossens, Fien Janssens, Liedewei Verbelen and Merel Van Mol Regie-assistance: Floor Burdack Techniek: Fenna Maas Met the support of Flanders and Stad Gent www.broder.be
