With We wake the City , De Republiek and Architectuuratelier Dertien12 stimulate your imagination. Experience a piece of Bruges in an unusual way! For this third edition, we are heading to the Quay District, an area between the city and the seaport. Today it might still seem a bit rough, but that is about to change... Because something is growing here. Het Europees project Re-Value is expanding the Bruges 'egg' and weaving the Quay District together with the city center, the harbor, and the polder. Together with four guides (artists, makers, and experts), you will experience this Quay District from angles you would never find on your own. Sign up and join the expedition! We wake the City is organized by De Republiek and Architectuuratelier Dertien12 with the support of Stad Brugge and Re-Value. --- 𝗗𝗔𝗩𝗜𝗗 𝗛𝗘𝗟𝗕𝗜𝗖𝗛 German artist David Helbich has lived in Brussels since 2002. He works with sound, installation, and performance, both in museums and in public spaces. David went viral with Belgian Solutions , a photography project full of absurd street finds. He has also made his mark in Bruges with his 'sensory acrobatics' during Letters to the City and the sound installation Imagine there was no roof at the Brugse Concertgebouw. David invites us to listen closely to our environment and to create a musical listening experience ourselves. That is exactly what he will do in the Quay District. BENNE DOUSSELAERE Benne Dousselaere is a musician, food performer, and masseur. He plays in pop bands (remember The Violent Husbands ?), and creates music and sound design for theater, performance, and dance. In his work, Benne explores these senses: tasting, smelling, and feeling. With Weirdo Food Nights, he organizes events centered around outsider food , late-night snacks, and other culinary experiments. Video, live cooking, storytelling, movement, and music always merge into a quirky and fresh whole. STEF DE BLIECK & ELS VANPACHTENBEKE As a project staff member at the mobile cultural house Uitwijken, Stef is constantly traveling through the neighborhoods of Bruges. Together with his colleagues, he brings culture closer to the people and invites them to actively participate. Public space is his playing field, the residents are his compass. In his own neighborhood, the Quay District, he and his wife Els often go looking for 'in-between spaces'. Els also founded a neighborhood committee there. Together, they are the ideal local residents to take you in tow. JONAS VANNESTE Jonas Vanneste is a landscape architect and city maker. He is the founder of Otherlands , a design studio focused on landscape, public space, urban development, and excursions. He contributed to the landscape biography of the Oudlandpolder and the master plan for the Sint-Pietersplas in Bruges. During We wake the City , Jonas will take you on a story about the sea: how it once reached Bruges, disappeared again, and might one day return. --- PRACTICAL INFO Thursday, June 4, 2026 & Friday, June 5, 2026 Two expeditions per evening: at 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM.
