This film is about the search for forgiveness and human dignity in nineteenth-century France. The story follows an ex-convict who struggles to leave his past behind, but who is hunted by a ruthless inspector. Against the backdrop of political unrest, their lives become intertwined with the lives of other fighters and dreamers.
