Operas, symphonies, concertos, film and chamber music ... With his characteristic repetitive style, Philip Glass, who celebrates his ninetieth birthday in 2027, has been setting the tone for minimalist classical music since the 1980s. He wrote Zijn Strijkkwartet No. 3 for the film Mishima, a 1985 biographical drama about the Japanese writer and activist Yukio Mishima. Members of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra play fragments from the haunting film score. They also bring music by Ernst von Dohnányi, one of the most versatile figures in Hungarian musical life. Musically, he remained firmly anchored in the late Romantic tradition, encouraged by none other than Johannes Brahms.
