Kormós is the latest album by Tasos Kofodimos and Yvonne Melissa, in collaboration with Mahyar Tahmasbi and Laia Escartin. With this project they create an idiosyncratic soundscape, built around a specially composed chamber music ensemble of four string instruments: violin, viola, cello and the steriano laouto (Greek lute). The result is a subtle interplay that is both intimate and compelling. The compositions of Kormós are inspired by trees: their mythology, forms, properties and the stories that people have connected with them through the centuries. The title Kormos (Κορμός, Greek for tree trunk) refers not only to that natural core, but also to the wooden character of the instruments themselves. Tasos Kofodimos and Yvonne Melissa are established names within the contemporary Greek music scene. With their debut "Myrra" (2023) and numerous concerts at home and abroad, they have steadily built their path in recent years. For this project they are joined by the Catalan violist, singer and composer Laia Escartin and the Iranian cellist Mahyar Tahmasbi, who is rooted in Persian classical music. A concert in which influences from the Greek tradition, the broader Eastern Mediterranean world and Persian music subtly merge with elements of jazz and classical chamber music. The quartet brings a sound universe that is both refined and adventurous, a meeting of cultures and styles. A special CD presentation for lovers of boundary-pushing folk, classical and world music. With: Tasos Kofodimos: lute, compositions Yvonne Melissa: violin, compositions Laia Escartin: viola Mahyar Tahmasbi: cello
