The motets of Johann Sebastian Bach belong to the absolute top of the vocal repertoire. Bach shows his polyphonic mastery and the great richness of his musical language, with diverse forms, instrumentations, and writing styles. No wonder his motets are his only vocal works that have been performed continuously since his death.
In addition to double-choir motets by Bach, his contemporaries, and family members, supplemented with music from Florilegium Portense and the Eisenacher Kantorenbuch, the program also contains as an extra a motet that the young Bach, who according to tradition had a beautiful soprano voice, would have sung himself as a choirboy!
