Film: The Theft

Flemish feature film debut by director and writer Raf De Graeve from Wetteren. The film tells the story of the famous theft of two panels of the Lam Gods in the night of April 10 to 11, 1934, from the Saint Bavo Cathedral in Ghent. A cinematic reconstruction of the greatest art theft in our history and of the person who unintentionally gets entangled in it. What if a missing work of art was not the only thing that remained hidden? What if the answer resurfaces 90 years later? The director weaves historical facts and fiction into a compelling thriller about the legendary art theft of the panel De Rechtvaardige Rechters. When the eccentric Hubert Verhoeven goes in search of his family history, he stumbles upon an old diary that catapults him into the middle of the mystery of 1934. What happened just after the infamous theft? And what did Wetteraar Arsène Goedertier hide on his deathbed? The film is the result of a unique collaboration between professional makers and talent from the Wetteren community. Met Ivan Pecnik in the lead role and the support of production house Moose-Stache, the project gets a solid professional basis.
