The grey heron!

On Saturday, June 13, you can go out in the Reigersbos with a nature guide. The guide welcomes interested walkers at 2:00 PM in the parking lot behind the church in the Schouwvegersstraat, 2040 in Berendrecht. Het Reigersbos has an area of +/- 4.3 ha. Together with the surrounding areas, the domain is particularly valuable as a breeding ground for the grey heron. The herons nest in the crowns of the centuries-old oaks. The castle and the forest, formerly known as “De Ster”, gradually got a different name due to the numerous presence of the herons. Reigerhof became Reigersbos and the Olmendreef that runs through the domain was officially named “Reigersbosdreef”. Herons are the first to come to our regions in the spring, they are also among the first to leave us again. Already at the end of July, beginning of August, the first herons leave. But every year we still meet herons in the autumn and even in the winter. This walk is a collaboration between Visit Kalmthout and Nareka. No dogs allowed.
