Jonas Bruyneel takes you on his imaginary walk with Federico Garcia Lorca - Spain's greatest poet and playwright of all time - from the inner city of Granada to the top of the Mulhacén, the highest mountain in Spain. In that constantly changing landscape, they talk about the longing for a home, polarization, empathy, and the role of poetry in a society that, like the red soil of Andalusia, is withering at lightning speed. In his inside pocket, Federico keeps a revolver. Who is Jonas Bruyneel (1989)? He debuted in 2015 with the award-winning story collection Voorbij het licht. In 2019 followed the historical novel Vijd. In 2022 came his debut collection broedland. Between 2017 and 2019 Bruyneel was city poet of Kortrijk. He publishes regularly in magazines like Het Liegend Konijn and De Lage Landen and Openbaar Kunstbezit. "Jonas paints the couleur locale in a virtuoso, cinematic way and the spectator sees, hears, smells, feels, and tastes continuously along as a silent travel companion...'Mulhacén' is an honest, colorful, tangible, educational, ambiguous, at times very musical, sometimes witty, and above all compelling work". (Lisa Rooijackers in Poëziekrant, September 2024)
