What begins as an ordinary doctor's visit turns into an endless medical limbo. Four characters become entangled in a world where operating table, body, and landscape merge into one another. Echoes of earlier and future times intertwine. The characters search for a way out of the bizarre cycle of exhaustion and resistance.
4 women getting sick shows a magical-realistic universe that explores the link between body and land through a visual and physical theatrical language. Both are subject to a long history of conquest, oppression, and exhaustion. Inspired by surrealism and sacred ecology, creator Renée Goethijn searches for the liberating power of the ancient bond between the female body and the earth.
In this performance, the scenography becomes a full-fledged co-actor. 4 women getting sick is a visually stimulating and alienating theater experience that chafes, amazes, and encourages reflection. Absurdity, humor, and existential questions merge into an ode to the female territory.
Renée Goethijn followed the makers' training at RITCS School of Arts in Brussels. She explores the boundaries between theater and visual arts, and follows her gut feeling to create visual and absurd performances. Expect the unexpected and perhaps even a new look at yourself, your environment, and the systems in which we live.
