'La meglio gioventù' is the fresco of a generation standing up for itself that tried not to give in to the world in order to be able to leave it a little better; it is a particularly clever, engaging, serious, cheerful and tragic family story with a look back at 40 years of Italian history, an epic that touches deeply and moves. Nicola and Matteo, two brothers who initially share the same dreams and friendships, decide to change the course of their lives when they meet Giorgia, a girl with psychological problems. Nicola decides to become a psychiatrist, Matteo gives up his studies and joins the police. The passions, the ideals, the turbulent love lives, the intrigues and setbacks of the two brothers and their family members are impressively interwoven with the important events from recent Italian history: the great flood of Florence, the fight against the Sicilian mafia, the great football matches of the Italian national team and the world championship, the terrorism of the Rode Brigades, the Fiat crisis, the student demonstrations... The film lasts over 6 hours.
