Geological walk in the Openluchtmuseum van Bokrijk

Thu, 24 Sept 2026 · 18:30
Domein Bokrijk, Genk
Free
Het Openluchtmuseum van Bokrijk is known for its idyllic houses from the Flemish past. But did you know that these buildings are also silent witnesses to forgotten and disappeared local natural building materials? Every type of stone has its own fascinating story to tell: a story of many thousands and even millions of years, about tropical seas that once flooded Flanders, ice-cold meltwater rivers that once flowed here, or about swamps and lime-rich seepage water. Some types of natural stone were imported from neighboring regions, such as Wallonia or the Eifel, and testify to the wealth of the builders at the time or specific architectural fashion trends. The guide will take you on this fascinating journey through space and time. Guidance: Roland Dreesen, LIKONA working group Geologie Doelgroep: adults Meeting point: Info center at Parking 1, Bokrijk. You pay 5 euros for parking
