Mastery packaged as a brilliant puzzle
In May 1747, Bach visited his son Carl Philipp Emanuel at the court of the music-loving Frederick the Great in Berlin. The monarch gave Bach a theme on which he improvised a fugue on the spot. Bach succeeded with flying colours in this musical challenge. Ensemble Diderot also offers us a glimpse into the rich musical court life where French composers such as Leclair were admired as well.
