The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie

‘The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie’ , based on the surrealist film by Luis Bunuel (1972), is an absurd comedy with a sharp socio-critical edge. The adaptation and direction are in the hands of Peter Monsaert , known for films such as “Offline”, “Le ciel flamand”, and “Nowhere”, and for various theater directions, including at Studio Orka and Compagnie Cecilia. Members of the upper bourgeoisie do nothing but make appointments to dine with and at each other’s homes with sex as dessert, but those appointments fail time and again. On top of that, a number of strange figures appear in a crazy dream structure that becomes increasingly absurd, with world events in the background as a gigantic spectacle or grotesque opera. VZW GAMA gathered more than 25 amateur actors from 10 different Ghent companies for this.
